I see this online all the time. Problem: bass is buzzing when playing on Y strings and Z position. I also see some well-meaning people give answers like “sounds like you need a truss rod adjustment!” Or sometimes more specifically, “if your bass buzzes here, then turn the truss rod this way.”
If your bass has buzzing, I recommend a different approach. Don’t chase buzzes around with your truss rod. Instead, measure your neck relief and adjust the truss rod if it needs it based on the measurement. Set your neck relief, then do your string heights. If you do these two things correctly and you still have buzzes, you should probably take it in to a pro because you may have fret problems.
