So I’m clicking around on Reddit and there’s someone asking about how to do a setup on a new bass he just ordered. There’s only a few responses so far. One of them suggests that YouTube, and in particular this guy, might be of help. You can probably see me rolling my eyes as I click to see what awaits us at the other end of that link. John Carruthers? No. It’s a couple guys from MusicNomad.

The first thing I check is how long is the video. Yikes, 45 minutes. I didn’t watch it all, but I did watch a lot of it and I made sure to catch key moments. And you know what? It doesn’t suck! He measures things a little differently than I do and his numbers aren’t exactly my numbers, but overall it’s pretty dang good instruction.

They waste no opportunity to pimp their own tools and products, but I think that’s fair. I openly suggested that Sweetwater should have done the same in their (flawed) guide. And their stuff doesn’t suck. I own a couple of their tools and their cleaning products.
